Netflix UK – Things you need to know about the Netflix UK version

Netflix is one of the biggest on-demand internet streaming media providers. Netflix is an American company, but it has expanded its operations in South America, North America, and some parts of Europe. Netflix UK was officially launched on January 9, 2012.

The Netflix US’ catalogue is wider than that of Netflix UK. However, the latter has more British movies and television shows.

  1. The Fall

The Fall was originally shown on BBC but it was later on picked up by Netflix for its second season. This series stars Gillian Anderson as Stella Gibson, a policewoman who is investigating a series of murders in Northern Ireland. Jamie Dornan also plays as the serial killer that Stella Gibson is pursuing.

  1. Happy Valley

Happy Valley is one of the new TV shows features in the British Netfix. This interesting British television series debuted on BBC One early in 2014. It stars Sarah Lancashire as police sergeant Catherine Cawood, a woman who is trying to move on after her daughter’s suicide.

Luther is a BBC psychological crime drama that stars Idris Elba as Detective John Luther.

The Inbetweeners is one of the popular British sitcoms that aired from 2008 to 2010 on E4. Though the series was cancelled already, you can still watch it on the British Netflix. Peep Show is a British comedy that stars Robert Webb and David Mitchell. The show has been broadcast since 2003 on Channel 4. It is the longest running TV show in Channel 4. This show is a classic example of a dark comedy. This television show draws humor from hard-earned regrets, borderline sociopathy, and ever-escalating bad decisions.  This show is a little similar to Seinfield, The Office, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

  1. Call the Midwife

This is a period drama series that follow a group of nurse midwives at East End of London during the 1950s. This TV series also tells a story of poor women in London who cannot afford reproductive health services.

This television series stars Miranda Hart, Jessica Raine, Pam Ferris, Jenny Agutter, Helen George, Judy Partfitt, Laura Main, and Bryony Hannah.

  1. The IT Crowd

The IT Crowd is a British sitcom that is a bit similar to The Big Bang Theory and The Office. The series is set in the London office of the fictional Reynholm Industries. The show stars Richard Ayoade, Matt Berry, Chris O’Dowd, and Katherine Parkinson.

  1. Foyle’s War

Foyle’s war is a British period drama that is set during and after World War II. The series stars Michael Kitchen as a brilliant police officer who solves different murder mysteries. The series was cancelled in 2007, but the good news is you can still watch it on Netflix. This series is much more like Homicide: Life on the Street and Downton Abbey.

The Paradise is a British costume drama that is visually appealing. The series was set in 1875 and follows the life of a clever sales clerk named Denise Lovett. The series stars Emun Elliot and Joanna Vanderham.

This British TV series is based on a true story. It is a mystery series. The television series follows the story of four women who work as code breakers. The series star Anna Maxwell Martin, Rachel Sterling, Sophie Rundle, and Julie Graham.

Netflix UK also has new releases such as BoJack Horseman and Darknet. Netflix has a growing market in the UK. In fact, it has 4.5 million users. This is proof that more and more people in United Kingdom prefer online streaming over regular television programming.
